A New Project in Fiction Writing: Stories as Song
Been a minute since we posted from the Fugitive coal mine, so I’ll try to make this update as succinct as possible.
About a year ago, Fugitive began an unexpected transition into audio storytelling. We have a youtube channel now where you can check out some of our “experiments.” Here’s the Youtube link.
As we walked down the audio trail, we discovered that songwriting was something we wanted to explore.
Introducing Just Us, a band formed by triplet brothers: Jenx, Harry and Benny.
One of their new songs will be available soon on Spotify and other music platforms, and they’ve agreed to share their personal journey here. The story of how they were split up soon after birth and lived separate lives until just over a year ago.
Now they’re renovating a place at the beach that belongs to Harry’s uncle, and writing songs, and just hanging out and getting acquainted.
Fittingly, their first single is titled The Left Behind, and it’s about what it was like being deserted by their birth father and mother. The song doesn’t drop on the major streaming platforms until August 9, 2025, but there’s a link to it below. We wanted our Substack friends to get a first listen.
The brothers have a variety of interests and musical tastes—pop, country, rock, and lyric-driven personal songs like The Left Behind.
We’ll be telling you more about the musical efforts at Fugitive, and more about Jenx, Harry and Benny. Harry’s stepsister, Sophia Whitfield, sometimes writes songs with them, as well as separately under her band name Sugar Pops.
Sophia has a new song about to drop, too. We consider her part of the Fugitive family of poets, writers, and now…songwriters.
